Anaheim, CA – November 20, 2015 – Kiyonna Clothing, Inc. of Anaheim, California is fundraising for Sandy Hook Promise, a non-profit organization which aims to prevent gun violence and loss of life.
Sandy Hook Promise is a national non-profit organization founded and led by several family and community members whose loved ones were lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Based in Newtown, Connecticut, their intent is to honor all victims of gun violence by turning tragedy into a moment of transformation through community-based mental health and wellness programs and sensible gun safety practices.
Beginning November 14, Kiyonna Clothing is donating proceeds from their Sunset Stroll Bellini Cardigan in Promise Green to Sandy Hook Promise. The “Promise Green Bellini” is a limited-edition item curated exclusively for the Sandy Hook Promise fundraiser. It is available in sizes 0x (10-12) to 5X (30-32).
Kiyonna Clothing’s involvement with Sandy Hook Promise began the fateful morning of December 14, 2012, when 20 children and six educators were killed by a single shooter.
“This national tragedy shook the core of so much that parents take for granted,” says Kiyonna’s President and Passionate Founder Kim Khanbeigi, a mother of two young children. “There is no question in my mind that we need to do everything in our power to keep our children safe. Watching the news on that heartbreaking day, I realized that this could have happened to my own daughter’s first-grade class. I felt helpless, but through Sandy Hook Promise, my husband and I have hope that we can all make a difference.”
Sandy Hook Promise Founder and Managing Director Nicole Hockley’s 6-year-old son Dylan was killed in this horrific tragedy. Nicole, along with other family members, has dedicated her life to ensure no other family experiences the loss of a child to gun violence. She and Sandy Hook Promise believe that we must focus on the human side of gun violence, not just on gun safety alone.
“It’s time for us to stop talking about just the gun. We need to make sure that people who suffer from mental health and wellness issues get the help they need before it ever gets to the moment they choose to hurt themselves or others,” says Sandy Hook Promise Founder and Managing Director Nicole Hockley. “Our mental health and wellness programs train adults and students how to identify, intervene and get help for at-risk individuals.”
Those who wish to purchase the Sunset Stroll Bellini Cardigan in Promise Green may visit www.kiyonna.com and www.sandyhookpromise.org. All proceeds from the sales of the Promise Green Bellini will be used to offset the cost of delivering Sandy Hook Promise’s mental health and wellness training programs across the U.S.
“Sandy Hook Promise is honored to be working with Kiyonna,” says Hockley. “They have been an incredible partner and supporter from the very start of this horrific tragedy. Our hope is that thousands of Americans wrap themselves up in Promise Green to remember that fateful day and help us ensure that it never happens again.”
Kiyonna has styled curvy women with its collection of contemporary plus-size dresses and separates since 1996. Offering styles in sizes 0x-5x, their fashions can be found online and in specialty plus-size clothing stores across the country. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women—more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. Surprisingly, every 9 seconds in the United States a woman is assaulted or beaten and 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime.
Plus-sized clothing retailer Kiyonna Clothing, Inc. does not want victims of such heinous crimes to suffer any more than they already have. Therefore, Kiyonna has partnered with Reveal NYC to help celebrate the beauty and dignity of women survivors of domestic violence in their annual Valentine’s Day Makeover Event. According to the President and Passionate Founder of Kiyonna, Kim Khanbeigi, “We’re in the business of making women feel amazing. What better way to do this than by partnering with Reveal for this event”.
Catherine Ngai, Reveal NYC president, had the following words regarding the Reveal event and Kiyonna’s partnership:
“For the last eight years, Reveal NYC has worked with prominent shelters across New York City to hold an annual Valentine’s Day Makeover Event. Thanks to generous donations from corporate sponsors, including Kiyonna, we are able to celebrate and restore the beauty and dignity of women healing from domestic violence by providing full makeovers and new wardrobes during the event. Not only do we see external makeovers, but these makeovers eventually lead to beautiful internal transformations.”
On January 14th, 2013, the Sandy Hook Promise was launched just one month after the shocking and tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary that devastated the country. Despite Washington’s inaction in its first year of existence, the foundation has found much success in local communities throughout the nation.
In order to honor the gains made over the last year as well as highlight the need to do more, plus-sized clothing retailer Kiyonna™ Clothing, Inc. has donated $26,000 to further the promise to those 26 lost souls of Sandy Hook Elementary. In a company letter released over the holidays, the President and Passionate Founder of Kiyonna™, Kim Khanbeigi, noted:
“I have always believed that to be a successful sustainable business, we must first take care of our future, we need to appreciate the present and provide an amazing place to work and grow, and if we are fortunate to achieve the first two, we need to act on the privilege to give back to the community. Although we are on opposite sides of the country, we must consider the Newtown community our neighbors. Being able to put money behind something you believe in is truly a privilege and is one of the reasons I love this business.”
