At Kiyonna, we support and stand with the Black community. We’ve been taking a moment to understand how we, as a brand, can use this moment to create change, foster self-reflection, and hope.
We’ve always used Kiyonna as a vehicle to serve a higher purpose. For 24 years, we’ve stood with the pure belief that you are beautiful, you are sexy, you are powerful – regardless of what you look like. Regardless of your age, your race, your shape, your size.
But we can do better. We pledge to do a better job of featuring more voices and more pictures from our Black community. From models to influencers to everyday women, there is no shortage of stories and imagery that can serve to empower us.
Beyond our site as a platform, there is also more we can do. We believe that racism is a leading cause of systemic poverty, and it is this discrimination which has led to and continues to be the cause of perpetual disparities in poverty, housing, and health care. In April, as the pandemic engulfed our country, we knew that sheltering in place was a privilege not everyone had, especially in our own two backyards of Orange County and Los Angeles. We partnered with Charity on Wheels and Beauty 2 the Streetz to provide much needed protective face masks to our homeless community. While we believe and hope that masks won’t be needed forever, we know that the fight against injustice requires something greater and longer, and we will make it our mission to change this one individual at a time.
“There comes a time when silence is betrayal.” Martin Luther King Jr.
We promise to not be silent, and to let our actions speak louder than our words. Black Lives Matter.
With Love and Resolve,
The Kiyonna Team
