When it comes to wedding dresses and gowns, Kiyonna takes pride in helping a plus size bride say yes to the dress. We love to hear their stories and the journey it took to find the perfect dress.
We are extremely happy to share our interview with our plus size bride, Sharon, about her special day with her husband and their small Covid safe wedding.
How did he pop the question or how did the proposal go down?

He popped the question in my living room after we had been working in the yard. Haha! We already knew we wanted to get married, he was just waiting on the ring to come in. The day it came in, we were potting plants and were sooo dirty! But he popped the question and although it may not be a wine and dine moment, it was sweet!

How did you two meet?

We actually met on Facebook! Crazy! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would meet my soulmate on Facebook!

Looking back, what is the most memorable moment on your wedding day?

The most memorable moment was reciting our own vows and then later dancing to our favorite song! Also, taking a shot of Fireball with all of my sisters before the wedding started! LOL!

As a plus size bride, how was your shopping experience and what kind of style were you looking to wear on your wedding day?

When we got engaged, it was around when Covid first shut everything down. Since I couldn’t go anywhere to try on dresses, I went online. I am not much of a dress wearer, and we already knew our wedding would be outdoors, so I didn’t need anything too glamorous. Something pretty, simple, and fun was all I wanted. I had ordered another dress, and it was just ok. Then I saw the Bella Lace Wedding dress on Kiyonna’s website and loved it. I ordered it, and it fit perfectly. I didn’t have to have it altered at all!

Why did you say “yes” to this plus size wedding dress?

I said yes to the Bella Lace Wedding dress from Kiyonna because it fit my style and my budget. It fit perfectly when I tried it on, and I loved how it comfortable it felt.

What is one non-traditional thing you did?

My wedding was a very family-oriented event. The wedding was family only, and it was held in the backyard of my brother’s house because it is so beautiful. My mom made our wedding cake and also sewed a piece of her wedding dress into my dress. My sister had made the paddle fans, my 2 sons gave me away, and my dad was ordained so that he could preside over the wedding. The photographer was a student that I taught in high school several years before! The entire wedding was such an intimate experience!

If there was anything you would have done differently the day of your wedding, what would it be?

I would have used someone else to do my hair. The person that originally did it didn’t do what I asked and my niece had to redo it at the last minute, which was nerve wracking! But she did great! But other than that, not one thing! It was one of the most precious days of my life!
