It’s Women’s History Month, and we’re excited to celebrate the amazing, hard-working women who make history and shatter glass ceilings on a daily basis. Just last week, director Chloe Zhao became the second woman to win a Golden Globe award in directing since Barbara Streisand in 1984. Last November, our country also elected California Senator Kamala Harris as the first female Vice President in United States history. And, on the day of the inauguration, Harvard graduate Amanda Gorman became the youngest female poet to recite her work in front of our elected officials. This last year also highlighted the accomplishments of female leadership. Countries like New Zealand, Germany, Taiwan, and Finland successfully addressed Covid-19 due to the strong leadership of their female elected officials. Female researchers and scientists also played an integral role in developing the vaccines that are currently being distributed.
Of course, there are many women currently hard at work right now, looking to accomplish great things. Whether it’s big or small, every success and achievement makes a huge difference in our world and communities. We’ve been fortunate enough to see many of our customers celebrate momentous occasions in Kiyonna styles. From college graduations to retirement parties, we’ve enjoyed celebrating these wonderful milestones with all of you. As a company primarily run by women, we understand the importance of empowering each other in any way possible. When women are encouraged and allowed to grow, the possibilities are endless. However, there is still so much work to do, and plenty of glass ceilings to break.
This month, let’s honor the amazing women that surround us and empower us, including you! In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’ve asked some of our hard-working lady bosses to share their personal pieces of advice when it comes to their lives and careers. We hope you also take a moment to reflect on the things that help you accomplish the things you do every day. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, artist, caregiver, nurse, doctor, business owner, and more, we want you to know that you too, make a difference! Happy Women’s History Month, everyone!
I didn’t mean for so much alliteration in one title but that’s my advice in a nutshell. When I think of my career over the past 25 years, the word “juggle” comes to mind. Being a business owner and the mother of two, time becomes the most precious of commodities. Early on, I had to craft a daily exit plan. How would I lay my head down at night knowing I gave everyone what they needed to be their best, while feeling content knowing I personally wasn’t drained of my own creative juices and could still feel highly invigorated? That’s a big ask. As women, multitasking or juggling is somewhat second nature. Unfortunately, multitasking to the point of exhaustion isn’t that uncommon either. The answer for me is a simple 5-minute practice journaling in the morning and at night. In the morning, I write down 3 things I’m grateful for, 3 things I’m excited about, and a positive affirmation for the day. At night, I log 3 amazing things that happened that day, and what could have made the day better. That’s it. It’s a practice that keeps me balanced, makes me happy, and because of this makes me more successful and helpful to those that need me. Find what works for you, and you’ll know it’s working because you’ll go to bed peaceful and wake up excited for another day.
